Raphael is head of specialist research. In his current role, Raphael leads Newton’s research non-traditional teams, comprising thematic research, geopolitical research, private markets, forensic accounting, and the investigative research team, which provides bespoke, deep-dive channel research to our investment professionals.

Raphael joined Newton in September 2021, following the integration of Mellon Investments Corporation’s equity and multi-asset capabilities into the Newton Investment Management Group. Before joining Newton, Raphael was director of the investigative research team at Mellon Investments Corporation and The Boston Company Asset Management (both BNY Mellon group companies).
Prior to joining BNY Mellon, Raphael was a research associate at North Run Capital, LP, where he conducted proprietary research and due diligence for a long/short value-oriented hedge fund. Earlier in his career, he was a senior analyst at the Massachusetts Office of Inspector General and a newspaper reporter at The Boston Globe, The (Bergen) Record and The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Raphael has a BA in Peace and Conflict Studies from University College, University of Toronto, and an MS with honors in Print Journalism from Columbia University.
