At Newton we are committed to the development of talented school leavers – the Newton Vocational Trainee Programme has been in place since 2012 and provides bright and determined A level students the opportunity to work at a global investment management firm whilst continuing in higher education.
As well as offering a challenging and rewarding start to their career, Newton will fund a two year (part time) HND Accounting and Finance course at the European College of Business Management for each trainee. Successful HND graduates will then be offered the chance to continue on the Programme in order to convert their qualification to a BA Hons Degree in Business Studies.
The benefits of the Programme are clear – trainees can begin building their career in the finance industry while still progressing academically and without the burden of college fees – and Newton can recruit competent young people that are motivated and hardworking, and whose age and educational backgrounds help to bring diversity of thought into the firm.
There are currently 11 trainees at Newton, at various stages of the Programme. They are working in a wide variety of departments within including those supporting the investment process, relationship management of Newton clients and investment operations, plus desktop support roles within the technology team. All of the six BA graduates each achieved at least a 2:1 BA Hons degree in Business and Finance – and all but one of these individuals remain at Newton and are progressing in their chosen career path within the firm.
