Andrew MacKirdy joins the team managing Newton IM’s £8.3 billion Global Equity Income strategy

Newton Investment Management, part of BNY Mellon Investment Management, today announces the appointment of Andrew MacKirdy to its Global Equity Income team, effective immediately. Subject to any necessary regulatory and fund board approvals, Andrew will become a named portfolio manager alongside lead manager, Nick Clay.

Andrew holds over two decades of investment experience and a strong background in global equity investing. He joins Newton IM from Polar Capital where he played a central role in designing and managing global equity investment strategies. Prior to this, Andrew held various investment roles at Lansdowne Partners, Baillie Gifford and Franklin Templeton.

The Newton Global Income Fund one of the firm’s flagship global strategies and its focus on sustainable dividends has given the strategy notable resilience in difficult market conditions. Andrew has a strong and disciplined approach to investing and analysis, which is very closely aligned to the investment approach of Newton IM’s Global Equity Income team. He brings with him a wealth of experience and will play an integral role in idea generation and portfolio construction.

Newton Global Equity Income is a conviction-based strategy with no regional or sector constraints, which focuses on sustainable and growing dividends. It employs a transparent, disciplined and repeatable process with buy and sell disciplines based on valuation. It is managed using a team-based approach led by Nick Clay, alongside Robert Canepa-Anson, Colin Rutter and Raj Shant, in conjunction with the firm’s 29-stong global research team.

Andrew MacKirdy has over two decades of investment experience managing successful global, EAFE and emerging market funds. He joins Newton IM from Polar Capital where he played a central role in designing and managing global equity investments. Prior to this, he was a member of the European strategy team at Lansdowne Partners and managed EAFE and emerging market portfolios at Baillie Gifford. During his time at Franklin Templeton, Andrew managed the Templeton Global Fund. Andrew has a BAcc in Accountancy from the University of Dundee and a MSc in Accounting and Finance from London School of Economics and Political Science.
