Conscious capitalism? The premise that businesses can operate ethically and serve their diverse group of stakeholders, while also generating profits and returns is often viewed with scepticism. In fact, these objectives do not need to be treated as trade-offs.

The prevailing mood has changed from one that had been long established. The UN’s Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) of 2000 came and went without much notice, while the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of 2015 have galvanised extraordinary interest and already mobilised huge financial and human capital resources.
